What happens
Jack Benny hosts a live broadcast from San Bernardino, California, for the Armed Forces Radio Service, with his regular company of Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Eddie Anderson as Rochester and singer Larry Stevens. The show is loaded with banter: Benny and Wilson trade mock introductions, Harris struggles with his Russian studies and a comic alphabet bit, and an Esquire writer keeps pressing Benny for his age. Dorothy Lamour visits the program, the cast celebrates her birthday, and Rochester phones in with a tale of a car accident on a bridge. The broadcast closes with the usual sign-off and an announcement from the Armed Forces Radio Service.
A live radio broadcast from San Bernardino, California, produced for the Armed Forces Radio Service, with the program's cast and visiting guests in the studio.
Characters: Jack Benny, Don Wilson, Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Larry Stevens, Rochester, Dorothy Lamour, Bob Ballon
Listen for: Benny's running gag about his age, Harris's Russian book and alphabet routine, and Rochester's phone call describing the bridge accident.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
