What happens

Jack Benny is angry at Fred Allen, who keeps mocking him on the air, so he sends Allen a threatening telegram signed with a fake name. Mary Livingston, Phil Harris, Kenny Baker and Don Wilson gather around the studio, teasing one another and trading jokes about stinginess and each other's looks. Benny then hires a bodyguard, Aubrey Mulligan, to protect him from Allen's supposed henchmen. This episode of the Jack Benny program aired on NBC and CBS Radio on February 5, 1939, with Benny, Livingston, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the lead roles.

A radio studio during a live broadcast, with a telephone and telegram office nearby, and later the streets of Beverly Hills at night.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
