What happens
Jack Benny and his company perform a broadcast from the Bangor Opera House in Bangor, Maine, for soldiers at Dow Field. Jack exchanges jokes with announcer Don Wilson about his weight and the cold, and receives a live lobster from local fishermen. Mary Livingstone, Rochester and Dennis Day trade quips about their travels, a birthday, and a dance. Jack later recounts an outing where he takes his friends bear hunting with an Indian guide, the broadcast's first half establishing the group's comic rapport. The series was first heard on January 3, 1943, with Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Eddie Anderson and Phil Harris in the cast.
Bangor, Maine, during a wartime broadcast for soldiers at Dow Field
Characters: Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone, Rochester, Don Wilson, Dennis Day, Abe Lyman, Phil Harris
Listen for: Jack's bear-hunting story, in which he mistakes a skunk for a moose and is frightened by a man in a fur coat.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
