What happens
Michael and Nina go walking on a foggy cliff above a West Coast harbor, where a murderer has been strangling men and leaving their bodies below. Nina loses her bag while Michael goes back for it, and Michael is later found dead on the rocks. Newspaperman McGraw and his colleague Barnes follow a tip to the cliffs and find the body, together with a metal ring and a piece of silk. They are led to a house where Nina lives with her sister Carolyn, and the sisters are unsettling hosts. Barnes begins to suspect that the sisters know more than they admit about the killings.
