What happens

Tracy, a young mining engineer, wakes in a furnished room in El Paso beside the body of Coombs, a man he remembers quarrelling with. McNamara, a hard-edged older man, claims Tracy killed Coombs and offers a deal: help him find the abandoned El Fortuno Diablo gold mine in Mexico, or face the police. The two travel to the village of Alicante, where a local figure named Montesano controls the frightened townspeople, and McNamara sets out to take the mine by force and fraud. Mining operations begin, but deaths, a mysterious hoofprint and a fire keep unsettling the workers, and Tracy grows uneasy about McNamara's methods. Inner Sanctum Mysteries, first broadcast 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
