What happens
Joe Watson, a laundry driver, wakes in a windowless room and finds himself trapped with a telephone and a voice that claims to be Dr. John Helming. Helming says he is conducting an experiment in fear. Watson soon meets Betty Grant, also held there, and the two must work out how to escape. The episode is part of the Inner Sanctum Mysteries series, first broadcast on December 11, 1945. Its lead actor is Kenneth Lynch, who plays Joe.
A windowless room with no visible doors, reached through a dark corridor, in a city where Watson worked as a laundry driver.
Characters: Joe Watson, Betty Grant, Dr. John Helming, Ben Lazari
Listen for: Helming's voice on the telephone and in the dark room, and the sound of the door as Watson and Betty try to find a way out.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
