What happens

Linda Dixon drives alone into the mountains on the first day of her vacation, her old car breaking down as night falls. Hearing a prison siren and a radio alarm about an escaped killer, she is startled when a state trooper stops her and questions her, then sends her on. At a lonely service station she finds a dead mechanic, and a stranger named John Taylor offers her a lift toward Carstairs. Linda grows increasingly uneasy about the man and the car, and the story follows her attempts to understand what is happening around her.

A dark, stormy night on a mountain road heading north toward Carstairs, including a remote service station and a small country house.

Characters: Linda Dixon, John Taylor, State Trooper, Dr. Bryce

Listen for: The shifting identities of the men Linda meets, and the sound of the car and the trunk that hint at what she has found.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
