What happens
Edgar Finley, an eccentric old man, orders a casket and has it placed in his crypt, telling his housekeeper Mary that he means to pretend to be dead so he can learn how his heirs behave. A bell wire connects the casket to the house, so Mary can release him when he rings. His cousin Robert and Eleanor attend what they believe is his funeral, and Robert grows increasingly uneasy about the bell, which he seems to hear ringing even when no one else does. Mary is soon missing, and the will is kept from being read. Robert's suspicion of Mr. Cadman, the family attorney, grows, and the tension rises as the household's secrets come to light.
The Finley house and its crypt, a small town, during the night and the following morning.
Characters: Edgar Finley, Mary, Robert, Eleanor, Mr. Cadman, Homer
Listen for: The ringing of the bell wired from the casket, and the way Robert keeps hearing it.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
