What happens

Danny, a small-time criminal fleeing a holdup, takes a train to Dorchester after stealing a wallet from a stranger named Clark Davis. Clark is heading to see his sister Susie, who has recently inherited money from their uncle. Danny reads Clark's letters and realizes he can pass as the missing brother. He drives to the family house, where Susie welcomes him warmly, but small details begin to trouble him. Susie is an inheritance-minded sister whose behavior grows strained. Danny must keep his story straight while the household and a suspicious hotel clerk raise questions about who he really is.

A train bound for Dorchester, a cheap hotel, and the Carter family house on the lake shore in Dorchester.

Characters: Danny, Clark Davis, Susie, Mrs. Brenner

Listen for: Pay attention to Danny's narration and to Susie's remarks about Clark, Mrs. Brenner, and the inheritance, which set up the story's turns.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
