What happens

Eric Carlisle, a stockbroker, is haunted by the apparent suicide of his employee Samuel Voss, who jumped from a bridge after Carlisle confronted him about embezzled funds. Driving through a storm, Carlisle believes he sees Samuel on the road and strikes a hitchhiker named Slim, then flees the scene. At a roadside diner he meets Ginger Thomas, who claims to know Slim and forces Carlisle to take her toward the injured man. The story follows Carlisle's mounting panic as the tangled accusations and a stolen overnight bag pull him deeper into trouble. The transcript ends before the full resolution of these events.

A rainy highway at night, a basement tavern serving ragtime music and chili, and a roadside diner, in a modern American town.

Characters: Eric Carlisle, Samuel Voss, Slim, Ginger Thomas, Carla Chambers

Listen for: Listen for the moment Carlisle realizes Ginger knows far more about him than he expected, and for the sound of the hand pump as he repairs a flat tire.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
