What happens

Red Henderson, a veteran back home after the war, quarrels with his wife Jane during a night out from the movies and storms off to the freight yards. He climbs aboard a boxcar, and it is not long before he and Jane find themselves locked inside with a silent, desperate man. As the car rolls on through the dark, water and food run out and the pair begin to face the real danger of their situation. The series, High Adventure, aired on March 22, 1947, and this episode is presented as a dramatic story told by Red Henderson himself.

A small town after the Second World War, then a freight train boxcar travelling through the night

Characters: Red Henderson, Jane, Deakin

Listen for: Red's account of how the quarrel with Jane leads him into the boxcar, and how the two of them are trapped inside it

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
