What happens

Mayor Ryan Cliff is accused of accepting graft by political boss David Franklin, who claims to hold a letter from the mayor proving the bribe. Reporter Mike Axford of the Daily Sentinel interviews the mayor, who denies the charge and names assistant housing director Purcell as his key witness. Purcell is then shot dead outside City Hall. Publisher Britt Reid, secretly the Green Hornet, and his aide Kato investigate, first reviewing the letter and later breaking into Franklin's office. Britt is wounded during the escape but reads the letter closely. The station's broadcast of the Green Hornet series is set in a crime drama, with the actors not named in the transcript.

A large American city in the 1940s, with its city hall, the Daily Sentinel newspaper offices, and political offices.

Characters: Britt Reid, Kato, Mike Axford, Mayor Ryan Cliff, David Franklin, Purcell, Cassidy, Gunnegan

Listen for: Listen for the reporters' interview with the mayor and the careful comparison of the typed letter's pages, which reveals the forgery.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
