What happens
Rick Reed, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his secretary Lenore Case, known as Casey, investigate a puzzle among the city's neediest families. Reed's staff finds that twenty families who were destitute a year ago now live in comfort, and several husbands are in prison after confessing to crimes. Reed suspects a link to Ray Spencer, a former convict. The Green Hornet, who is Reed in secret, begins his own inquiry with his valet Kato, tracing the families and their visitors through the city's back streets.
A present-day American city, the offices of the Daily Sentinel, police headquarters, a nightclub, and the poorer streets and apartments of the slums and west side.
Characters: Rick Reed, Lenore Case, Michael Axford, Kato, Ray Spencer, Virgil, Marty Hooker, Maggie Hooker
Listen for: Reed's staff reporting that the families were wealthy, and the way Maggie Hooker and the others react when the Green Hornet confronts them.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
