What happens
Britt Reid, a daring young publisher, and his valet Cato look into the parole system after the Daily Sentinel prints charges against Michael, the parole board chief. Reid's reporter Axford helps press the story while police check on men recently paroled. Garlic Corallis, a paroled man, is arrested with policy numbers, and soon after he is shot dead in an apartment owned by Liggett. Reid suspects the parole board is supplying men to a numbers racket. Later, the Green Hornet questions the paroled men, and the case moves toward a recorded voice and a tense confrontation.
A 1940 American city in which a newspaper publisher, the police and a parole board confront a numbers racket.
Characters: Britt Reid, Cato, Michael, Gunnegan, Axford, Sergeant Moran, Corallis, Liggett
Listen for: The recorded voice of Corallis and the confrontation with Michael in the police records room.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
