What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his staff, including Michael Axford and Linda Travis, pursue the numbers racket in a series of police raids that keep failing because the gang is tipped off in advance. After an anonymous call leads Linda and Axford to a payoff at an abandoned boathouse on the riverfront, Sergeant Burke is caught holding a envelope of cash. Britt Reid begins to suspect that the leak lies inside the household of Commissioner Higgins, whose house has become the center of the investigation.
A city in the 1940s, including the Daily Sentinel newspaper office, police headquarters, a tailoring shop, a riverfront boathouse, and Commissioner Higgins' home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
