What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, and his secretary Kate Case look into a racket preying on immigrants seeking citizenship. Ferraro, a newly arrived immigrant, is being blackmailed by a man named Ligget, who threatens to have him deported unless he pays. Reid's paper runs a story on the case, and Reid soon turns his attention to whoever is behind the scheme. The story is part of the Green Hornet series, which aired on March 6, 1940, and the transcript shown is only the first part of the episode.
Los Angeles, at the Daily Sentinel newspaper and in the city's immigrant tenements.
Characters: Britt Reid, Kato, Kate Case, Ferraro, Ligget, Monk, Larry, Gunnegan
Listen for: Pay close attention to the blackmail scheme against Ferraro and the rumors about the citizenship test racket.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
