What happens

Publisher Britt Reid and city editor Gunnegan of the Daily Sentinel interview Corporal Don Hartwell, a decorated war hero who speaks warmly of his mother and his absent father. Meanwhile, ex-convict Joe Milton, who recognizes Hartwell's photograph in a newspaper, refuses to join a payroll robbery planned by his old partner Big Mike. Reid's valet Cato waits as Reid, disguised as the Green Hornet, confronts Joe in his basement room. Joe agrees to help the Hornet, and the plot turns on a warehouse confrontation in the dark.

Wartime Detroit, including the Daily Sentinel newspaper city room, the subway, a basement room on Water Street, and a warehouse.

Characters: Britt Reid, Cato, Gunnegan, Don Hartwell, Joe Milton, Big Mike, Lefty, Mary

Listen for: Joe Milton's confession about his past and his decision to refuse the payroll job.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
