What happens
Britt Reid, publisher of the Sentinel, and his valet Kato look into a black market in steel after steel shortages shut down a local plant. Broker Bill Barnaby is accused of selling steel at inflated prices, and when Reid visits businessman Jennings at home, he finds Jennings dead, with a suicide note beside the body. Reid pockets the note and the police begin asking questions. Their investigation pushes the story toward a trap set by a masked figure known as the Green Hornet.
A steel-shortage period in an American city shortly after the war, including a steel plant, Reid's newspaper office, Jennings's suburban home, and Barnaby's country house.
Characters: Britt Reid, Kato, Michael Oxford, Bill Barnaby, Jennings, Martin, Mabel, Mr. Dinning
Listen for: Reid's decision to take the suicide note from Jennings's study, and the trap he sets for Martin, who is working for Barnaby.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
