What happens
Gildersleeve, a small-town man, plans to propose to Leila Ransome, and his opposition to Judge Hooker, who has also come to court her, becomes a rivalry. Leila has returned to town after an absence and takes a war job at a new arms factory, which causes an argument at breakfast between Gildersleeve and the judge over women working. Later, Gildersleeve tells his niece Marjorie and his household staff that he intends to marry Mrs. Ransome, and he prepares for his visit by buying cologne and flowers. The story is part of The Great Gildersleeve, a radio comedy first broadcast on NBC on January 3, 1943, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
