What happens
Water Commissioner Floyd's neighbor Gildersleeve is pelted with snowballs by boys on a vacant lot in Summerfield. Returning home, he finds his nephew Leroy seemingly innocent, claiming he stayed in and studied all afternoon. Later, Gildersleeve discovers a child-rearing book by Dr. H.L. Yakley that warns against perfect, obedient children, and he worries that Leroy has lost his spirit. The story follows his efforts to restore the boy's stubborn streak and his growing confusion over Leroy's behavior. The Great Gildersleeve aired on NBC on February 14, 1951, starring Harold Peary, with Lurene Tuttle and Lillian Randolph also in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
