What happens

Summerfield's water commissioner, Gildersleeve, learns that state water inspector T.P. McGregor is coming to examine his department's books, and he scrambles to put his records in order. Water consumption figures have dropped, his staff are sick or uncooperative, and his chief engineer is refusing to wait for a replacement part. Desperate to win the inspector's goodwill, Gildersleeve arranges an evening out with some girls, but his plan takes an unexpected turn when he finally meets McGregor face to face.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's frantic attempts to prepare for the inspector and the mounting confusion over his plans for the evening

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
