What happens
Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, rushes to finish an article for the Summerfield Indicator about the town's water system. Afterward he is pleased to hear that an old high school friend has arrived in town and wants to visit him at his office. Gildersleeve struggles to recall the man's name as he prepares for the visit, and he invites the friend to dinner at his home. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series, and this episode was first broadcast on NBC on February 12, 1947, starring Harold Peary.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to remember his old friend's name, and his reaction to the friend's stories of his travels
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
