What happens
Gildersleeve sits alone on his front porch at the end of a hot summer, with his household away and his dinner poorly cooked. He calls out to his friend Judge Hooker, who turns him down for a card game, and then calls Peavey and a few others, none of whom can join him. When Leila Mott unexpectedly stops by, the evening takes an awkward turn. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running radio comedy, and this episode was first broadcast on NBC on September 3, 1944, starring Harold Peary, Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's lonely evening and his awkward visit from Leila Mott
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
