What happens
Leroy Forrester wants to buy a plane motor from his friend Piggy, so Leroy takes a morning paper route to earn the money his guardian, Judge Hooker, advances him as a loan. Early one rainy morning Leroy is supposed to deliver papers, but his uncle, Mr. Gildersleeve, drives him along the route in pajamas and bedroom slippers, and the two of them run into a series of mishaps. Their car stalls in floodwater, and the neighborhood's trouble spreads as the papers keep going astray. Harold Peary stars in this episode of The Great Gildersleeve, which aired on NBC on September 14, 1941, with Willard Waterman, Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
