What happens
Summerfield school teacher Grace Tuttle is sponsoring a hobby show in the school gymnasium, and two suitors, Dr. Olson and Mr. Gildersleeve, are vying for her attention. Olson shows off his paintings and tries to draw Grace away from her work, while Gildersleeve, who has never bothered with hobbies, scrambles to find one of his own. He decides to make a lamp, but his project is interrupted repeatedly by Leroy's homework and party preparations. Meanwhile, Grace's friend Phoebe and other townspeople prepare their own entries. The Great Gildersleeve, starring Willard Waterman and Lillian Randolph, first aired on NBC on March 24, 1954.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
