What happens
Gildersleeve takes his new secretary, Adeline Fairchild, to a movie and then back to his office late at night, where they play at being secretary and boss. The mayor arrives unexpectedly and assumes Adeline is Gildersleeve's new secretary, so Gildersleeve fires his longtime secretary Bessie. Confusion grows as the mayor, Floyd the barber, and the judge all hear different versions of the evening, and Gildersleeve must decide how to set matters right. The episode is from the series The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on April 21, 1948, and stars Harold Peary, with Lurene Tuttle, Lillian Randolph and Willard Waterman.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's late-night office visit with Adeline and the mayor's surprise arrival
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
