What happens
Gildersleeve, the water commissioner of Summerfield, keeps calling on his new neighbor Paula Winthrop, whose daughter Babs seems to resent his visits. Gildersleeve hopes to win over Babs so that he can court her mother more easily, and he plans a chestnut-gathering picnic with the family to build friendship. Babs and Leroy are both part of the household as the adults try to find common ground. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running comedy series on NBC, and this episode aired on October 24, 1951. Willard Waterman stars as Gildersleeve, with Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle in the cast.

Listen for: Gildersleeve's attempts to win over Babs through a chestnut-gathering picnic, and the awkward moments that follow.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
