What happens
Gildersleeve, the town official of Summerfield, decides to stay home from work by pretending to be sick. His housekeeper Birdie insists he drink grapefruit juice and go without food, while his nephew Leroy and his young friend Clarence keep disturbing him in the yard. Gildersleeve sneaks toward the refrigerator, and a series of visitors arrive, including his friend Judge Hooker and the pharmacist Peavy, who checks his pulse. Adeline Fairchild, a neighbor, also turns up and invites him to a party. The series The Great Gildersleeve aired on NBC, and this episode first aired on May 12, 1948, starring Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
