What happens
Gildersleeve, the water commissioner in Summerfield, has accidentally made dates with both Leila Ransom and Grace Tuttle for the same night, and both are now refusing to speak to him. He seeks advice from his old rival Dr. Clarence Olson, who suggests playing hard to get, but the plan backfires when Olson himself takes Leila to a symphony concert. Gildersleeve then tries a series of schemes to win back Grace, including a disguise as a vacuum cleaner salesman. The Great Gildersleeve is a radio comedy series on NBC, and this episode aired on February 18, 1953. Harold Peary and Willard Waterman are among the lead actors, with Lillian Randolph and Lurene Tuttle also featured.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
