Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a candidate for mayor of Summerfield, faces his opponent Mayor Tarbaby in a heated primary campaign. Gildersleeve's nephew Leroy watches the rivalry and tries to understand the town's party politics. Gildersleeve's fiancée Eve Goodwin is preparing to see her mother leave town, and Gildersleeve arranges train reservations through his friend Floyd Munson. Eve's mother has been staying with the couple, and the household is busy with plans for her departure while the election draws close.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
