What happens
Gildersleeve is annoyed when his rival Clarence Olson visits Grace Tuttle late one evening, and he later learns that Olson is leaving Summerfield. Gildersleeve decides to make peace by hosting a testimonial dinner for the young doctor, inviting Grace and the head of City Hospital. Gildersleeve's nephew Leroy and the housekeeper Birdie are involved in the preparations. The story of the Great Gildersleeve, a radio comedy, is told as the characters arrange the evening, and the dinner's outcome is the matter the story develops around.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
