What happens
Gildersleeve, the water commissioner, finds a baby girl left in his car in a department store parking lot. Attendants and the police chief refuse to take responsibility, so he reluctantly carries her home. His niece Marjorie and nephew Leroy are charmed by the infant, while his housekeeper Bertie is torn between sending her away and keeping her. The judge, his lawyer and friend Horace Hooker, offers to place the child in a foundling home. The story is part of The Great Gildersleeve, first broadcast on NBC on September 8, 1948, starring Harold Peary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
