What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve is courting Adeline Fairchild, who reveals that her former suitor Cecil Revanor of Savannah has written to her and may challenge him to a duel. Gildersleeve, a water commissioner in Summerfield, grows increasingly anxious over the threat, consulting his friend Judge Horace Hooker and the grocer Peavey and nervously fretting at the office. The Great Gildersleeve is a long-running NBC radio comedy, and this March 17, 1948 episode stars Harold Peary in the title role, with Lurene Tuttle and Lillian Randolph among the cast. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
