What happens

Fred Allen and Portland Hoffa trade jokes and banter on the Fred Allen radio show, which airs on CBS and NBC. Allen stops in Allen's Alley to ask a series of guests about the most important advance science has made recently. Senator Claghorn, a poultry show, a rainmaker, and a television fight each add a comic answer. Later, Allen receives a telegram confirming New Year's Eve reservations at the Carnival nightclub. Georgie Jessel, who is performing there, persuades Allen to book the expensive dinner package and then to borrow a tuxedo from a shop run by Sam. The tuxedo fitting goes badly, and Jessel suggests they perform together on stage.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
