What happens

Fred Allen strolls down Main Street on a Sunday night with his regular sidekick Portland Hoffa, trading jokes and chatting with townspeople about whether people like to travel. Their encounters include a senator discussing Professor Einstein, a neighbor who has never left her home, and an Irish marcher with sore feet. Later, Victor Moore arrives after a health-food dinner, and the program turns to a parody of a crime drama starring Victor Moore as a determined police chief hunting a gangster nicknamed Charlie the Chicken. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
