What happens
Fred Allen and his guest Arthur Treacher trade jokes and sketches in this 1946 episode of the Fred Allen radio series, first broadcast on February 24, 1946. Allen and Kenny Delmar talk about radio giveaways and their odd prizes, then visit Senator Claghorn, Titus Moody and Mrs. Nussbaum, each of whom describes an unusual hobby. The show includes a musical interlude from the DeMarco Sisters and Al Goodman's orchestra. Arthur Treacher then takes a turn as a British visitor who asks for something new to bring back to London, leading to a hillbilly drama. Allen, Portland Hoffa and Minerva Pious appear in the cast.
A radio studio program and Allen's Alley, plus a music store and a rural hillbilly homestead in the hills
Characters: Fred Allen, Arthur Treacher, Kenny Delmar, Portland Hoffa, Minerva Pious, Senator Claghorn, Titus Moody, Mrs. Nussbaum
Listen for: Senator Claghorn describing his home movie hobby, Titus Moody's putty and deer ends stories, and the hillbilly drama that closes the main show
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
