What happens

Dr. Allen runs the Bedlam Sanitorium, where a string of odd patients and visitors turn each visit into chaos. A patient who claims to be cured gets a bill for fifty dollars, a bloodhound with a head cold tries to track stolen chickens, and a baby is brought in by a neighbor who borrows babies to win favors. A chef and a stout patient quarrel over stolen food, and a gang of visiting European doctors goes along on an emergency call. This is the Fred Allen radio comedy series, first broadcast on November 24, 1933, on CBS and NBC. Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious are the lead performers.

The Bedlam Sanitorium, a small hospital with a waiting room, a telephone line and a kitchen, plus a nearby street corner.

Listen for: The running jokes about Dr. Allen's terrible treatments and fees, and the slow-witted chef who keeps misspeaking.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
