What happens

The Fred Allen Show, a 1939 comedy-variety broadcast, opens with Fred Allen and Harry Von Zell trading jokes before the program turns to a run of comic segments. Portland Hoffa appears late, and Allen introduces guest Alfred L. Platt, described as an authority on the doughnut industry, who discusses sales figures, doughnut history and the proper way to dunk. Allen questions Platt in his usual wry style about the trade's methods and traditions. Later the broadcast moves to a segment on dental health and a mock quiz feature. The transcript breaks off partway through the show's later part.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
