What happens
Colonel Culpepper, a proud Southern planter, is nearly ruined as his slaves have quit and his plantation is to be auctioned off. His loyal servant Jefferson and his wife Clabell stand by him as he rails against the North and nurses a stubborn toothache. His daughter Magnolia arrives with her suitor, a banker named Mr. Dowdy, who proposes to restore the mansion with money from the North. The Colonel's pride is tested by the auctioneer and his newly arrived visitors. The Fred Allen series, first broadcast on March 11, 1936, is presented here by the Town Hall Tonight company, with Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious in the cast. The transcript breaks off before the story's outcome.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
