What happens

Detective One Long Pan is called to the Ritz Hotel by Mohammed Bay Rum, whose sacred elephant is threatened by kidnappers demanding $100,000. Pan inspects the hotel and the elephant's room on the top floor, where a telegram arrives warning that the animal will disappear unless payment is made. Pan begins to suspect the hotel itself, noticing that the floor numbers appear to run in an odd sequence and that the building's layout may be deceiving the guests and staff. The story is part of the Fred Allen series, first broadcast on December 4, 1935, with Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, Kenny Delmar and Minerva Pious among the performers.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
