What happens

Jim Anderson receives a hand-painted necktie with a tiger on it, delivered anonymously to his porch, and cannot work out who sent it. His wife Margaret, his children Betty, Bud and Kathy, and his neighbors all offer theories while the family tries to pin down the sender. Father Knows Best is a radio comedy series, and this episode first aired on November 1, 1951, starring Robert Young as Jim Anderson. The family's attempts to identify the gift and return it lead to a series of mix-ups over the tie and the wrapping paper that came with it.

The Anderson home on Maple Street in Springfield, with a visit to a downtown department store.

Characters: Jim Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Betty Anderson, Bud Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Dorothy Woody, Ed Davis, Mr. Gribble

Listen for: Jim's attempt to trade the tiger tie to Ed Davis, and Dorothy Woody's complaints about her own delivered gift.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
