What happens
On a quiet Sunday at the Anderson house on Maple Street in Springfield, Jim Anderson plans a list of household chores but would rather nap. His son Bud has been persuaded by a new acquaintance, Tom Lewis, that writing a song could bring in large sums of money, so Bud and his sister Betty rehearse their song loudly while Jim tries to rest. Jim's household duties and his insurance job pile up as the family prepares to play the song for Tom Lewis, who has arrived at four o'clock. Father Knows Best is a radio family comedy, first broadcast on November 15, 1951, starring Robert Young as Jim Anderson. The family's Sunday turns into a series of interruptions and misunderstandings.
The Anderson house on Maple Street in Springfield, on a Sunday in autumn
Characters: Jim Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Bud Anderson, Betty Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Tom Lewis
Listen for: Jim's attempts to nap while the children rehearse their song, and the arrival of Tom Lewis at four o'clock
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
