What happens
Bud Anderson, a teenage boy in the Anderson family, is thought by his schoolmates to be a snob, and his sister Betty brings the news home. The family learns that Bud is not stuck-up but is simply too tongue-tied to talk to girls. His parents Jim and Margaret, along with sisters Betty and Kathy, try to help him. Their efforts include a phone call, a comic mask that seems to loosen his tongue, and a plan for a masquerade party. This is the Father Knows Best episode The Life of the Party, from October 15, 1953, with Robert Young as Jim Anderson.
The Anderson family home, and later the local school and a movie theater.
Characters: Bud Anderson, Jim Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Betty Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Virginia, Margie
Listen for: Bud's attempts to speak to girls while wearing the comic mask, and his father's remarks about learning to ride a bicycle.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
