What happens

Jim Anderson, a district manager in Springfield, navigates his car through traffic while his daughter Betty pleads for a new dress without shoulders, and he reluctantly agrees to think about it. Later, Jim tries to teach his son Bud the value of money by offering him paid work and then charging him for food, room and other expenses. Meanwhile, Jim invites his business contact Mr. Gribble to dinner, hoping to win his insurance business. Margaret worries about the children's behavior, and Kathy becomes anxious about Mr. Gribble's large nose. The episode is part of the Father Knows Best radio series, first broadcast on NBC on September 24, 1953, starring Robert Young as Jim Anderson.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
