What happens
Jim Anderson, a bargain-hunting father in Springfield, keeps bringing odd purchases home to the dismay of his wife Margaret and their children Betty, Bud and Kathy. His new lamp, a bird bath, a rock-throwing machine and a Persian-language book all cause trouble in the house. Jim buys a hundred pounds of putty as a joke, and the story follows the family's reactions to these purchases. This episode of Father Knows Best aired on May 10, 1951, and the lead role is played by Robert Young.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
