What happens

On a crisp October morning in Springfield, Jim Anderson refuses to give his daughter Betty the five dollars she needs for a Halloween costume party, citing his strict rules about allowances. When that party is cancelled, Jim suddenly offers to host a small old-fashioned Halloween gathering at the White Frame House on Maple Street, and the guest list grows far beyond what anyone planned. This episode of Father Knows Best, broadcast on October 29, 1953 and starring Robert Young as the father, follows the family as the evening unfolds in the basement playroom and kitchen. The transcript covers only the first part of the episode.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
