What happens

David Parker, a merchant marine second mate recovering from a head injury, wakes on a foggy road near Calais with his watch and wallet missing. He meets Emily Haydock, who insists he is in England near Dover, while he is certain it is France. Confused and anxious about rejoining his ship, Parker searches for proof of where he is, first at a village villa and then with a local magistrate, Dr. Putney. Escape presents Walter Newman's story Two and Two Make Four, first broadcast on August 21, 1954. The cast includes Shep Menken and Joyce McCluskey.

Calais and Dover, France and England, 1954, in fog

Characters: David Parker, Emily Haydock, Dr. Putney, Mr. Smith Travers

Listen for: Parker repeating 'two and two make four' to steady himself, and the conversation about the channel tunnel at Mr. Smith Travers' house

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
