What happens
Lieutenant Dormier, a hot-tempered young officer in Colonel Perrot's regiment, has killed several fellow officers in duels over insults. When he learns that Marianne, the niece of Major Cole, has been courting the Colonel during her visit, he challenges his commanding officer. Major Cole and Captain Armand, serving as seconds, must arrange the affair, which the Colonel insists be fought with one pistol unloaded. Marianne tries to intervene as the men face each other at dawn on the field.
An army regiment on the eve of a campaign against Vienna, in the Austrian territories of the early nineteenth century, with a dueling field and the major's house as the main locations.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
