What happens

In the northern Balinese town of Singaraja, the government resident Mr. Lorgen, the narrator, learns that three English college boys from a visiting ship have mocked a sacred statue at a temple. The local priest, Inan, is furious, and his daughter is among the young people who have run off with the English men. As anger spreads through the town, the resident tries to keep an uprising from starting, while the English boys and their captain face the rising crowds. The story follows the tense hours as the town empties and the situation grows more dangerous.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
