What happens
Roger Tain, an Englishman renting the shooting rights on Mr. Blossom's farm in Dorset, accidentally kills a man during a confrontation with three figures he takes for poachers, then hides the body in a pond. Returning to the field, he meets Robert Hassingham, a member of the People's Union, and Hyatt, who both seem interested in the previous night's events. A former German officer named Dale then approaches Tain, claiming the dead man was part of a plot and asking for his help. This is the Escape episode 149, Rough Shoot, first broadcast on August 15, 1951, adapted from the novel by Jeffrey Household.
Dorset, England, in autumn, on a farm and nearby fields, with a village, a landing strip and a wood.
Characters: Roger Tain, Cecily, Robert Hassingham, Hyatt, Dale, Mr. Blossom
Listen for: Listen for Roger Tain's account of the accident and his decision to hide the body, and for Dale's revelations about his past and his plans.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
